Hey y’all! Happy Friday before the Superbowl! Who are you rooting for? I’ll be rooting for the Eagles. I am a Ravens fan through and through but Joey is a diehard Eagles fan and since the Ravens won’t be seeing the Superbowl this year I can actually really and truly root for the Eagles on Sunday. We have this kind of agreement that if our own team isn’t playing, we have to root for the other team. I have no problem doing that because the Eagles are a respectable team. Now if he was a Steelers fan, I’d have to boycott the whole thing 🙂
I wanted to update you guys on something that may affect my blogging schedule. I normally post on Fridays and do my writing during the week but lately my body has been giving me a rough go of it. Recently my body was feeling really achy and sore and I’ve been exhausted allllll the time. Joey and his parents kept telling me I was coming down with something but it was just persistent and I felt fine other than the exhaustion and aching. So I went to the doctor and they tested me for what seemed like freaking everything. They tested me for Lyme Disease, an Iron deficiency and Lupus. I get the results back in a few days so I’m praying everything is alright and it’s just a minor iron deficiency that is easily remedied.
On top of all that this week, I seem to have caught a really nasty cold so I’ve been feeling super rundown. The reason I’m telling you all this is because since I haven’t been feeling my best, I haven’t really been up to writing content and developing it for posts when I get home from work. I just wanted to put it out there so if I am a little bit off with my posting, you’ll know why 🙂 I’m going to try my hardest to stay on schedule and keep it coming for y’all though!
On a more related note, today I’m going to be bringing you my entire skincare routine! Like my haircare routine, my skincare routine was pretty much non-existent for a long time. Now that I take care of my skin, it looks 1000x better and I actually enjoy pampering my skin! Your skin shows aging before any other part of your body so why not take care of it? Your skin starts to age before you even get out of your teens (yikes) so it’s never too early to start thinking about anti-aging products! I’m going to share what I do in the morning and in the evening to keep my skin as healthy as possible!
In the morning I start by cleansing my face with a little dab of Biore Baking Soda Pore Cleanser on my Clarisonic Mia 2. I noticed that my Clarisonic stretches the product so it seriously decreases how much I need and keeps me from having to buy it often. I use my Acne Prone Skin brush head on my Clarisonic. This is really good to use with hormonal acne!
After cleansing, I like to moisturize with my Garnier SkinActive Moisture Rescue moisturizer for normal to combo skin. This is seriously the best moisturizer I have ever used. I love the gel formula. I find that it soaks into my skin quickly and it’s not super heavy but moisturizes my skin like a dream! It’s great to moisturize in the winter and keeps dry patches from appearing but it’s super light for the summer! I like to moisturize as soon after cleansing as possible while my skin is still warm so it soaks in as deeply as it can.
Then I just prime my skin with primer and apply my makeup!
In the evening, I first remove all my makeup with a cleansing wipe. I like to use the Equate brand! I used to use the Neutrogena kind but then I tried out the Equate brand and realized they worked just as well for a fraction of the price! I use the Night-Time Soothing kind and I just love the smell! I also like the Equate brand because it has a little plastic snap cover on the wipes rather than the sticker the Neutrogena ones have and that keeps them from drying out like the Neutrogena ones.
After removing my makeup, I cleanse my skin. I think it’s important to remove your makeup before cleansing and not just doing it in one step because if you’re washing your face before taking off your makeup, you’re actually only removing your makeup and not cleansing your pores! I don’t know why it took me so long to figure this out but once I did, I noticed a lot less breakouts and my skin felt so much cleaner! I cleanse again with my Biore cleanser and Clarisonic Mia 2 but this time I use my Deep Pore brush head. I like using this brush head at night because I want a good clean after having makeup on my skin allll day long. I find that my clarisonic exfoliates but not so intensely that I can’t use it twice a day. They actually recommend for best results, to use it twice daily! You could put it on the lower setting if you have sensitive skin.
Once a week after cleansing, I exfoliate with an intense exfoliator. I like the Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion Age-defying Exfoliator. This product costs a pretty penny but I only use it once a week so it lasts forever! So worth it!
After I exfoliate, I like to apply a face mask of some sort. I occasionally do sheet masks but I love to do clay masks. My favorite one is the Freeman Dead Sea Minerals Anti-Stress Mask! Omg I love that one! They have soooo many masks it’s hard to choose! I love the way this one makes my skin feel and the smell reminds me of my childhood for some reason so it’s a must. I’ll usually do a mask 1-2x per week.
I skip using a toner because I just haven’t found one that does anything for me. Let me know what your favorite toner is! After my face mask, I apply my Mederma Scar Gel. I love this stuff! I have some acne scarring so I started using this about 3 months ago and it has made a huge difference! My scars have faded immensely and some have even disappeared! I even apply it on current breakouts to keep them from scarring and it has worked wonders! I like to apply this at night instead of in the morning so it has time to settle in and it won’t move around under makeup.
After my Mederma, I use a serum. I use the Ole Henriksen Truth Serum. It has Collagen and Vitamin C in it and it really brightens and plumps the skin! It smells like that orange flavored powdered drink Tang! Do y’all remember that stuff? Oh my gosh I loved it! I also like to take my serum and moisturizer down my décolleté because skincare doesn’t just stop at the neck.
I finish with an eye cream under my eyes and my Garnier moisturizer because as Tati Westbrook would say, “More is more”. I use the Juice Beauty Smoothing Eye Concentrate. I’ve heard if you have sensitive skin it can irritate it but my skin isn’t sensitive so it works great for me! It really hydrates under my eyes and combats dark circles!
I know this seems like a ton and that it takes forever but it really doesn’t. It’s just a few steps but the results I’ve seen in my skin make it so worth it and it doesn’t seem like a chore. I hope some of my recommendations work for y’all and I’ll see you next week!
